Crackdown on academic community continues: two educators and student arrested
Associate Professor of the Criminal Law Department of the Belarusian State University (BSU) Dzmitryi Maroz was arrested in Minsk. In the ‘repentant video’, the man says he was detained for subscribing to ‘extremist Telegram channels’ and promises to unsubscribe from them.
Pro-government channels also reported on the arrest of a lecturer at the BSU Department of Business Administration. In his ‘repentant video’, he says that he participated in August 2020 he participated in a rally and signed up for the Voice platform chatbot used to report election fraud. Presumably, the person in the video is a PhD in economics, Associate Professor Yuryi Karaliou.
It is reported that Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (BSUIR) student Aliaksandr Harhun was arrested as well. Aliaksandr is a sophomore at the Computer Systems and Networks School.
