Former Lukashenka supporter convicted of participating in protests after riot police beats up her son
On July 26, the Lieninsky District Court of Minsk found political prisoner Ina Shyrokaya guilty of ‘actively participating in actions that grossly violate the public order’ under Part 1 of Article 342 of the Criminal Code. Judge Anastasiya Achalava considered the case.
Ina Shyrokaya is well-known in Hrodna. She is a mother of five. Before the elections, Ina was actively building her career as the local cafe manager and was engaged in sports.
Ina, who admitted that she had voted for Lukashenka, began to attend protests and express her opinion on the country's lawlessness after riot police detained and beat her 18-year-old son Mikita.
Ina Shyrokaya was detained right at home with a brief explanation: “For the events of 2020”. She had three minor children at home.
Before the trial, Ina was held for 145 days in pre-trial detention.
On July 26, the Lieninski District Court of Minsk found Ina Shyrokaya guilty of ‘actively participating in actions that grossly violate the public order’ under Part 1 of Article 342 of the Criminal Code and sentenced her to three years of restricted freedom under home confinement.
