Imprisoned ex-candidate for presidency Viktar Babaryka moved to hospital
Yesterday, 27 April, it became known that Viktar Babaryka who is incarcerated in Navapolack correctional facility was moved to a surgery unit in a local hospital.
A source of Belsat TV channel in Navapolack hospital said that Babaryka had a drainage device installed, but could walk without assistance: “In the morning he walked on his own, they took him somewhere from the hospital. He looks beaten, but I am not aware of his diagnosis.”
Later it became known that Viktar Babaryka was still in the central hospital of Navapolack. Doctors confirmed that an examination was carried out and fluid was drained from his lungs. Viktar’s condition is considered moderately severe. He is being monitored by the hospital’s medical staff. The reasons for his hospitalization are still unconfirmed.
Human rights activists have received information that the political prisoner was held in a secure housing unit before his hospitalization. It is not known exactly when this happened. It is also reported that Babaryka spent a long time in a punishment cell in winter. There was hardly any information about Viktar Babaryka for several months. No correspondence was reported to have been received from him. Babaryka’s lawyer was not able to visit him, as he was arrested during a crackdown on lawyers on March 20.
