Former policeman detained at the border on his return from Poland and sentenced to 8 years in a penal colony
Kiryl Hniazdzilau was convicted in the Brest Regional Court on August 3 under Part 6 of Article 16 and Part 1 of Article 130 (assistance in inciting other social hatered), Part 1 of Article 179 (illegal actions with respect to information about private life) of the Criminal Code. Judge Andrei Leshchanka sentenced Kiryl to eight years in a medium-security penal colony.

According to the Brest Viasna, Kiryl Hniazdzilau worked in the police since 2007, then he quit in August 2020 and started to work in the IT field.
The Brest resident was detained right at the border when he returned from Poland to visit his wife and children. The man had been living in a neighboring country for the last six months.
The trial was held behind closed doors. The case was considered during six court sessions. It is known that it is connected with the Black Book of Belarus.
Kiryl was obliged to pay compensation for moral damage to two victims (2000 and 1000 rubles, respectively). Also, the former policeman was stripped of his captain's rank.
