Political prisoner Aliaksandr Frantskevich was sentenced to another year of imprisonment
On June 24, the Vaŭkavysk District Court held a trial of political prisoner Aliaksandr Frantskevich, who was previously sentenced to 16 years and nine months in a high security penal colony. He was charged under Part 2 of Article 411 of the Criminal Code (malicious disobedience to the administration of the colony). Judge Mikalai Siarheika sentenced the political prisoner to another year of imprisonment.
Aliaksandr is an activist of the anarchist movement and a person involved in the Revolutionary action case. The political prisoner was found guilty on a number of serious criminal charges. In September 2022, Aliaksandr was sentenced to 17 years in a high security penal colony and a fine of 22,400 Belarusian rubles or more than 8,800 dollars. On February 28, 2023, the Supreme Court held a closed-door hearing of appeals. The judicial board, chaired by judge Aliaksei Rybakou, dismissed the appeal, and Frantskevich's term was reduced by three months. Thus, Aliaksandr's final term of imprisonment was 16 years and 9 months in a high security penal colony.
The political prisoner was first sent to Ivatsevičy penal colony No. 5 to serve his term, but later transferred to Vaŭkavysk penal colony-11. According to human rights activists, since September 2023, Aliaksandr had been placed in a cell-type space (PKT) for six months, and has also been repeatedly placed in a punitive isolation cell (SHIZO).
In May 2024, it became known that a criminal case had been initiated against Aliaksandr under Article 411 of the Criminal Code (malicious disobedience of the colony administration). The political prisoner had been in the PKT for a long time.
His trial took place in the Vaŭkavysk District Court on June 24, 2024. Judge Mikalai Siarheika found the political prisoner guilty and sentenced him to another year of imprisonment. Before the appeal, Aliaksandr is being held in pre-trial detention center No. 6.
On July 19, it became known about the detention of the political prisoner's mother, Tatsiana. She is accused of "participating in an extremist formation" under Article 361-1 of the Criminal Code. The woman is being held in custody in the Viciebsk pre-trial detention center-2.
