Courts Consider Suits of Zakharanka’s and Krasouski’s Families
On October 30 Miensk Frunzenksi and Kastrychnitski borough courts considered the suits of the families of the ex-Minister of Internal Affairs, the general Iury Zakharanka and the businessmen Anatol Krasouski. The judges postponed consideration of the cases.
Alieh Vouchak, representative of Volha Zakharanka (Iury Zakharanka’s wife), demands from the court to consider the date of Zakharanka’s disappearance, May 7, 1999, as the date of his death. On October 30 the judge Viktar Bialianin submitted this proposal to Miensk city court. The court refused to confess Iury Zakharanka as the investigation was prolonged to January 2003.
On October 30 the judge of Frunzienski Tatsiana Kulakova also started consideration of Iryna Krasouski’s suit with the same demand. Representative of the Krasouskis, vice-Chairman of Helsinki Committee Hary Pahaniaila solicited for attraction of additional materials concerning the procedure of investigation (such as copies of expertise conclusions). His second solicitation, to summon of Internal Affairs Minister Navumau, ex-Minister Iury Sivakou, the general Lapatsik and the commander of the Special Fast Reaction Squadron, was rejected by the court and postponed the case consideration to November 20.
