UCP Member Sentenced to 10 Days in Jail for Picketing to Commemorate Victims of Political Repression

According to information of “Radio Racyja” judge of Vitsiebsk Chyhunachny district court Sviatlana Tufan senced member of the United Civic Party Fiodar Bakunou to 10 days of imprisonment. He got to know about it on occasion. On January 8 he came to the court to find about end of the case against him, initiated for participation in the unauthorized picket of October 30, devoted to Commemoration Day of political repression victims.

According to Belarusian legislation, the term of responsibility for administrative violation ends in two month after the fact of violation, but the judge didn’t pronounce the sentence till December 30, 2002, though Mr. Makunou attended the last court sitting in person.

So, he was told about the sentence on January 8 about the sentence of the judge that dated back to December 30. Only at night he managed to inform his family that he had been taken to jail right out of the court.
