FAMILIES OF MISSING POLITICIANS EXPRESS CONCERN ABOUT FATE OF YURY KORBAN, VITEBSK POPULAR FRONT ACTIVIST. THEY URGE TO JOIN PROTEST ACTION ON 20 JANUARY, ONE YEAR SINCE HE DISAPPEARED.
Yury Korban, 24-year-old student of Vitebsk State University, head of youth initiatives' center "Kontur", activist of Belarusian Popular Front Party, took an active part in the presidential election campaign'2001. Korban has been missing since January 20, 2002.
One year has passed, and we still don't know anything about his fate.
We, mothers and wives of the kidnapped politicians and public activists YURY ZAKHARANKA, VIKTAR HANCHAR, ANATOL KRASOWSKI, AND DZMITRY ZAVADSKI, understand the pain and sufferings of Yury Korban's family. We know how difficult it is to wait, watching hopes fading away every day. We also know very well that law-enforcing bodies practically do nothing to investigate such cases.
Today we want to remind you, people of Belarus, that, unfortunately, the state does not guarantee our security, that nobody is safe from similar tragedies, that sorrow always comes unexpectedly. The worst is to feel all alone with the sorrow. That is why today we again ask you for help:
CITIZENS OF BELARUS!
Lets defend ourselves, our homes, our husbands and families together. That's the only way for us to stop political terror, mockery and humiliation of our families and neighbors. That's the only way to defend the future of our children and our country.
We ask you to come to Kastrychnitskaya Square on 20 January, 12 a.m. Your support means a lot for us!
