CANDIDATE QUITS JOB TO RUN
Member of Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Narodnaya Hramada) Aleh Kavalewski was forced to quit his job. He had to choose: either refuse to be a candidate and cancel his party membership, or lose his job.
According to the press service of BSDP (NH), the executive bureau of the party calculated the results of their candidates’ registration. The party members will run in 119 constituencies to become deputies of councils of different levels: from village to regional ones. Candidates were nominated in different ways. 117 social democrats were nominated by signature collection. 83 of them were registered as candidates. The party organizations nominated 103 people, 69 of them were registered. The significant part of the party members were nomonated simultaneously by signature collection and through party organizations.
The party learned about another case of persecution for political activities. Aleh Kavalewski, party member from Orsha, was running for membership in Orsha city council. His job administration presented him with an ultimatum: he had to either quit the election race, or his job. Aleh Kavalewski decided to continue the race and stay in the party.
