MARCH ORGANIZERS SENTENCED TO 15 DAYS OF JAIL
On 13 March 2003 four organizers of the social protest action People’s March “For a Better Life!” were sentenced to 15 days in jail.
Trials were held in Savetski Borough Court with Judges Aksana Relava and Ruslan Kazadayew presiding.
The results of the trials:
Andrei Sannikaw (Charter’97 International coordinator, one of the action organizers) – sentenced to 15 days of jail under Art. 167-1 of the Code of Administrative Offences – violation of the established order of organizing or holding street actions
Ludmila Hraznova (one of the march organizers, Charter’97 human rights coordinator) -- sentenced to 15 days of jail under Art. 167-1 of the Code of Administrative Offences – violation of the established order of organizing or holding street actions
Dzmitry Bandarenka (Charter’97 coordinator) -- sentenced to 15 days of jail under Art. 167-1 part 2 of the Code of Administrative Offences – violation of the established order of organizing or holding street actions
Leanid Malakhaw (one of the organizers of the market vendors’ strike on 12 March and the action “For a Better Life!”, co-chair of "Private Property," the market vendors movement) -- sentenced to 15 days of jail under Art. 167-1 part 2 of the Code of Administrative Offences – violation of the established order of organizing or holding street actions
After the trials all four were taken to Akrestsina jail.
