The consideration of the criminal case was to have taken place on 20 March, at Minsk Tsentralny Borough Court, but was postponed to April 3, as Aksana Novikava’s 2-year-old daughter has fallen ill. The criminal case against A. Novikava was initiated in October 2002 for distribution of fly-sheets “libeling President of the Republic of Belarus and accuse him of felony commitment” (Article No. 367 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus). Aksana Novikava had to sign an agreement not to leave the city. If found guilty, she can be sentenced to up to 5 years of personal restraint or imprisonment.
