No Promotion for Hour Of Sorrow

Representative of the information department at Homel City Executive Committee Hanna Shydlowskaya prohibited the Promotion Bureau to distribute information about the Hour of Sorrow, devoted to anniversary of Chernobyl tragedy.

In Homel the Hour of Sorrow was traditionally held on 26 April, on the day of the accident. Every year Homel citizens were coming to the Central Square with candles.

Head of the Board of Homel regional branch of the HRC “Viasna” Anatol Paplawny says: “It is not a meeting or a picket, it is Hour of Sorrow and we don’t have to ask for official permission… This year we wanted to see as many people as possible. We have already applied to the Promotion Bureau in connection with the 85th anniversary of Belarusian People’s Republic, they printed and stuck our ads. After this Hanna Shydlowskaya, representative of the information department of Homel City Executive Committee, prohibited the Bureau to distribute information about the Hour of Sorrow.
