ALEXANDER IHNATSIUK, EDITOR AND FOUNDER OF THE VIACHERNI STOLIN, PINSK INDEPENDENT NEWSPAPER, CHARGED WITH INSULTING AN OFFICIAL

RFE/RL reports Alexander Ihnatsiuk learned about the criminal charge from the telephone conversation with a local police officer. Uladzimir Pashkevich, head of Stolin district executive committee, thinks the newspaper editorinchief has insulted him in one of his articles. The prosecution brought criminal charges on his petition. The Stolin district prosecutor stated, that with his articles Alexander Ihnatsiuk “hindered” Pashkevich to fulfil his official duties. It’s worth reminding that during the local election Stloin authorities succeeded in suspending publication of The Viacherni Stolin for three months. Later publication of another Pinsk independent nespaper The Pravintsyalka, also founded and edited by Ihnatsiuk, was suspended for the same term.
