AFTER 3 YEARS POLICE IS TO COMPENSATE COURT EXPENSES TO PARTICIPANT OF BOYCOTT-2000 CAMPAIGN

Uladzimir Kishkurna lost all hopes to receive the money he spent 3 years ago to prove the police actions were illegal. Now Centralny borough court of Minsk ruled the City police board is to compensate the court expenses to the participant of the Boycott-2000 campaign. It’s been three years since Kishkurna started the case.
Uladzimir Kishkurna, head of Minsk Belarusian Popular Front organization, was detained in 2000 during the campaign to boycott the parliamentary election. The police officers attacked him, dragged to the car, and took to a police station.
Kishkurna: “They detained us and took to a police station. Later we filed a complaint to Centralny borough court. The court just kept my complaint for 2 years. Then I wrote another complaint to the Justice Department. Centralny court immediately reacted by sending my complaint to Minsk city court. The higher court heard the case and cancelled the fine. But we had to go through three trials, we had to pay for lawyer’s services. That’s why I demanded to compensate these expenses and moral harm. Both district and city courts cancelled the moral harm suit, but ruled to compensate for court expenses. Although I am not going to agree with this decision. They really did heart me morally. They violently detained me, using physical power against me. I was doing nothing illegal, but the police acted along the principle “Power is our right”.
