On 26 february Minsk Leninski Court will consider the suit of Siarhey Atroshchanka, editor-in-chief of the “Obozrevatel” newspaper concerning protection of his honor, dignity, business reputation and compensation of moral harm.
Mr. Atroshchanka demands to exact from the defendant, “Narodnaya Volia” newspaper, 50 million rubles. According to the BAJ press service, the hearings will start on 10 a.m.
The reason for the suit is the article by Maryna Koktysh “What Business Feels Well in Belarus?” that was published on 26 November 2003. Well-known public activists will bear witness at the trial. One of them is Andrey Klimaw, whom Judge Vera Tupik (who will lead the trial) sentenced to 6 years of jail with property confiscation in 2000.
