Salihorsk citizens addressed their MP asking to back amendments to Electoral Code
On June 21 activists of Belarusan Helsinki Committee and United Civic Party local branches handed over to Piotr Kaluhin, MP from Salihorsk constituency, the appeal in which more than 500 Salihorskers ask the MP to vote for the amendments to the Electoral Code, prepared by the MPs on hunger strike. In case of positive solution the voters promise to support Kaluhin at the forthcoming elections.
The appeal in support of hunger strikers states “today you are facing choice: either to remain honest or to back the authoritarian decision. But don’t forget that authoritarian leaders have always worked for crushing their yesterday’s companions”.
The signers think that free and fair elections correspond not only to society interests but also to the interests of present-day MPs. That’s why Salihorskers guarantee support for Mr.Kaluhin at the elections on condition he supports their demands on June 22.
It is worth reminding that the lower house of Parliament is to consider the amendments to the Electoral Code necessary for fair and transparent elections in Belarus.
