Marynich to Stay in Custody for Two More Months

Investigation into the case of Mikhail Marynich will continue for at least two months. Marynich’s lawyers have already stated they will complain against this decision to court, reports RFE/RL.

Lawyer Vera Stramkowskaya found out about extension Marynich’s detention in KGB investigation ward from investigator Skrabtsow. In the phone conversation Skrabtsow said he would explain his motives during the meeting at KGB appointed on June 25.

Meanwhile, KGB press secretary Alexander Bazanaw stated Marynich would be kept in custody for at least 2 months more. He didn’t inform about the exact wording of the decision and pointed out, most likely it would be the typical “in conjunction with the interests of the investigation”.
Vera Stramkowskaya told RFE/RL her client would most probably complain against that decision in court. She doesn’t know if Marynich will go on hunger strike as he has warned the KGB. “Personally I am against such a hunger strike and will try to make him change his mind”.
Mikhail Marynich is in custody for 2 months already. Human rights defenders and opposition politicians in Belarus believe his case is politically motivated.
