Resolution of the Commission on Foreign Affairs of the Seym of the Republic of Poland about Human Rights Violations in Belarus

On 15 July the Commission on Foreign Affairs of the Polish Parliament issued a resolution on human rights violations in Belarus.

Here’s an unofficial translation of the text of this document into English:

“Each time the Commission of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus receives information about the increase of repressive and pressurizing actions of the authorities towards Belarusian democratic opposition with growing concern.

We treat the threats to illegalize opposition parties (including the beginning of liquidation of Labor Party) as serious violations of the generally accepted rules of respect to human rights.

Non-abidance by the international rules and commitments of such kind is also a considerable violation of the grounds of the modern peaceful life and against the peoples of Europe. It is even more important to us due to the fact that these events are taking place in neighborhood to Poland and concerns the people with which we have special moral and historical contacts.

The Commission on Foreign Affairs considers it necessary for all Polish diplomats to take all possible actions aimed at protection of organizations and actions of Belarusian opposition who are persecuted. We also consider it necessary to raise these issues at the forums of the European Union, the Council of Europe and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

Moral support of democratic intentions of Belarusian people by Poland is a necessary expression of friendship and establishment of conditions for close cooperation between our countries.
