Police Haunt Candidate Zmitser Shymanski

At about 8 p.m. on 8 October 2004 four policemen with the head of Maskowski Borough Board of Internal Affairs at the head burst into the office of the youth public association “Suzorye”, the head of which is the candidate to deputies from Belarusian People’s Front , lawyer and teacher Zmitser Shymanski, who runs in Brest electoral district No. 2.

Referring to “signals from citizens” the police started to search of the office with video camera and witnesses. They were interested mostly in fly-sheets.

Zmitser Shymanski is sure that besides the confiscation of fly-sheets the police intended to make a film for showing on the local TV in order to discredit the democratic candidate.
