Public Associations Get Closed Down in Horki and Bialynichy
This information has been provided by www.belngo.info, the portal of the Assembly of the Non-Governmental Organization of Belarus. The leadership of the women's public association Lubava from Horki decided to launch a self-liquidation process. The reason is that the organization cannot fulfil the requirement of the regional department of justice demanding that the legal address of the public association should be changed.
According to the information provided by our portal earlier, in February 2005 Lubava received a warning for violating the eighth article of the new Housing Code. According to Mahiliou officials, the Horki-based public association has its legal address in a high-rise residential building, which is in breach of the effective legislation.
Tatsiana Kiraienkava, the association leader, says that after receiving the document from the regional department of justice, the Lubava leadership attempted to bring its legal status in conformity, all of the attempts, however, failing.
"In such a situation it simply does not make any sense waiting for sanctions or fines, says T.Kiraenkava, we want no litigation or scandals implicating our people. We are very sorry that the situation turned as it did, because we had earlier invested so much effort into getting registered".
A similar decision was taken by the administration of the Bialynichy Area Studies Association, which had also received a warning from the justice bodies. However, according to the chair of this public association Mikhas Karpiechanka, Bialynichy will soon see an area studies club that will continue the activities now pursued by the association.
