Belarusian human rights activists met with Ben Majicadumi, Assistant to the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, in Geneva. During the meeting the issues of assisting the Belarusian human rights movement were discussed.
The human rights activists of Belarus came to Geneva for the 61st session of the UN Committee for Human Rights. At the 29 March session Adrian Severin, the special UN rapporteur for Belarus, made a statement criticizing the human rights situation in Belarus. The Foreign Ministry of Belarus responded to this report by mentioning double standards and manipulation of facts. According to the assistant to the special representative of the UN Secretary General, this reaction was not an unexpected one.
“Representatives of Belarus have a habit of singling out minor inaccuracies with a view to discrediting UN reports”, Ben Majicadumi told the Belarusian human rights activists.
