Vitsiebsk Opposition Demands to Punish Policemen for Prohibition of Action Dedicated to Anniversary of Disappearance of Iury Zakharanka
Aliena Zalieskaia, chair of Vitsiebsk city organization of United Civil Party complained to the procurator of Vitsiebsk region. Representatives of other oppositional parties signed the complaint as well. Vitsiebsk opposition demanded from the procurator’s office of Vitsiebsk Kastrychnitski borough board of internal affairs to present the juridical documentation that prohibited standing in the street in white-red-white scarves and holding portraits, because on 7 May the police dispersed participants of “Chain of Concerned People” for it.
The representatives of United Civil Party and Belarusian People’s Front who took part in the action had no flags and posters and kept silent Ms. Zalieskaia disproves the police opinion that this action can be qualified as a street picket. If the procurator’s office confirms that scarves and portraits aren’t prohibited symbols, Vitsiebsk oppositional activists intend to develop the practice of using such attributes.
What concerns Ms. Zalieskaia, she tries to “get rehabilitated” another artistic means – reading of poems during “Chernobyl Way” which the police qualified as participation in unauthorized meeting.
