The participants of the Hrodna action in commemoration of the sixth anniversary of Iury Zakharanka’s disappearance appeal against the verdicts
On 26 May 2005 one of the activists in the Chain of Concerned People that took place in Hrodna on 7 May Iury Istomin filed an appeal with Hrodna Region Court against the decision of Kastrychnitski Borough Court of Hrodna. According to Mr. Istomin, the court decision was political rather than legal: “In the first session already we filed statements requiring attachment to the case of regulations passed by the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus and signed by its chair Sukala and the incumbent General Procurator of Belarus Miklashevich that said that people staying in the street with portraits of the disappeared politicians are not pickets. If Hrodna Region Court passes a negative decision, the action activists plan to appeal in the Supreme Court of the country. Also, Iury Istomin prepared appeals to file with Hrodna Regional Department of Internal Affairs, with the procurator’s office of Kastrychnitski Borough Court of Hrodna and Hrodna City Council of Deputies against the illegal actions of Lieutenant Colonel H.Zaiku of the criminal police of Kastrychnitski Borough Board of Internal Affairs By filing complaints, the activists of the action believe they bring to attention of the people the cases of the disappeared politicians.
