Verdict to the Belarusian opposition leaders remains the same
The Charter-97 press center informed that on 28 June Minsk City Court considered the Appeal against the verdict passed by the Tsentralny Borough Court of Minsk and upheld the verdict passed to the Chair of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Narodnaia Hramada), the coordinator of the European coalition Mikola Statkievich, and one of the Young Front leaders Paval Sieviaryniets. On 31 May the court sentenced the opposition politicians to three years of restricted freedom for organizing on 18-19 October 2004 mass protests against the official results of the parliamentary elections and referendum. Simultaneously with the amnesty, the term of restricted freedom has been reduced by a year.
Now Sieviaryniets and Statkievich have undertaken not to leave the city. In several days the politicians will be sent to the penal facilities.
"We intend to go through all levels of the court system in Belarus, and then will insist that the court be considered in the European Court for Human Rights", said Sieviaryniets.
