Frantsysk Skaryna Homel State University gets rid of democratic activists

The young activist of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party Hramada, the 3rd year student of the philology department Paviel Madzhara has been expelled from the Frantsysk Skaryna Homel State University, reported Radio Liberty.

The dean of the philology Uladzimier Bobryk point-blank refused to comment the expulsion of Paviel Madzhara from the university. The assistant dean Leanid Kuzmich explained the situation in the following way: "He has failed to attend many classes. I told him: look out! And three outstanding credits. When you have three credits not passed, you may be expelled – it is all down to the rector".

Paviel Madzhara says that he had the right pass the credits in question until 30 August, but he was not issued an official permission: "The dean's office said that they had already sent expulsion documents to the rector". Mr. Madzhara talks of what has preceded the expulsion: "One month before this I had a talk with the assistant rector for ideology Siarhei Khanien about my status in the Belarusian Social Democratic Party Hramada. Then he had a talk with a man in plain clothes, who did not identify himself but was, I think, the KGB representative for our university. He proposed I become his informer, and when I said no he threatened consequences. Later my dean Uladzimier Bobryk had a talk with my parents and then with me. He said unless I withdrew from the BSDP Hramada, the outcome of my university training would be obvious."

The democratic community of the regional center the student Madzhara is known not only as the social democratic activist but also a participant of the youth movement Zubr actions.
