The status of national minorities in Belarus will be reviewed by the NATA assembly
The problems of national minorities in Belarus will be reviewed by the NATA assembly. The issue will be discussed at the end of September in Vilnius. This is the information provided on 18 August by the vice-speaker of the Lithuanian seym Cheslavas Iursenas, who is now in Poland, reported Polish Radio.
Ch.Iursenas also came out in favor of the active role to be played by the European Commission. The politician regards as useful the visits by young Belarusians abroad so that they can see with their own eyes "how people live in democratic countries".
Ch.Iursenas and the vice-speaker of the Polish Sejm Tomasz Halencz discussed the problems of the Polish and Lithuanian minorities in Belarus. The politicians declared the need for bringing to the attention of the international community the recent developments in the country, and the close neighbors of Belarus should create a work group with Lithuania, Poland, Latvia and Ukraine to coordinate the policies with respect to Belarus.
