Members of Young PORA Picket Belarusian Embassy in Kyiv
On 28 February the NGO ‘Young PORA’ held pickets outside Belarusian embassy in
Kyiv in solidarity with fighters for democracy in Belarus . About 30
members of ‘Young PORA’ protested against political repressions
against proponents of democracy in Belarus in the run-up to the
presidential election in that country. Bearing yellow PORA banners and white-red-white Belarus historical banners, Young PORA activists protested outside the embassy of Belarus
against law violations by President Lukashenko. Chanting ‘Long live
Belarus!’ protesters built a symbolic bridge of freedom between Ukraine
and Belarus , something which should transfer the revolutionary zeal
Ukrainians showed back in 2004 at the time of the Orange revolution to
their Belarusian brothers. One of the posters born by PORA read: ‘2004 -
Ukraine, 2006 - Belarus !’.
For its part, the PORA-PRP civic election bloc urged Ukraine Foreign
Ministry to give political asylum to Belarusian human rights activists.
’We should not forget that at the time of our revolution we received
voices of support from democratic countries. Today, it is our duty to help
Belarus, -- PORA-PRP statement runs.
