Zhlobin District: Road Police Detain Deputy Chair of Milinkevich’s Headquarters Viktar Karneienka
In the evening of 6 March in Zhlobin district the road police detained the car of Viktar Karneienka, deputy chair of the electoral headquarters of Aliaksandr Milinkevich (the candidate to the presidential position from the united democratic forces). Mr Karneienka was trafficking about 10 000 legally published booklets with agitation for A.Milinkevich.
In his interview to RFE/RL Viktar Karneienka said: ‘They detained me, stated the car was wanted and then examined the luggage boot. I showed them the document witnessing I am Milinkevich’s proxy, but they didn’t listen to my explanations - they executed an order. I’d also like to say that our telephones are bugged.’
Zhobin police stated they had called an official from Zhlobin District Executive Committee to check up the booklets. ‘We are responsible for road safety and public security. We don’t sabotage anything and I have nothing more to say, because I still don’t know the essence of the problem’, -- said the duty policeman.
