Mahiliou: Aliaksandr Liabedzka is Fined, Uladzimir Shantsau -- Arrested for 15 Days

On 7 March Mahiliou Leninski Borough Court considered the administrative cases against the chair of the National committee of the united opposition Anatol Liabedzka and the chair of Mahiliou regional headquarters of Aliaksandr Milinkevich Uladzimir Shantsau. The cases were brought for the organization of the electoral meetings in the streets of Mahiliou. A.Liabedzka was sentenced to a large fine, whereas U.Shantsau was sentenced to 15 days of jail. The police detained Mr Liabedzka after his meeting with the electorate in the center of Mahiliou, not far from the building of Mahiliou City Executive Committee. It's worth mentioning he had to hold the meeting outdoors, because the local authorities didn't provide any room for the meeting. After the end of the meeting the police detained Anatol Liabezdka and forcibly took him to Mahiliou Leninski Borough Board of Internal Affairs. Mr Liabedzka thusly described the attitude of the authorities to the meetings: "At first they treated the meetings normally. Then there started provocations and attempts to disrupt the meetings. They started to fear the increasing tempo of the campaign, that wouldn't bring any good to them".

The chair of Mahiliou Regional Headquarters of Aliaksandr Milinkevich Uladzimir Shantsau was sentenced to 15 days of jail. He gave the following commentary: "It means they want to exclude me from the electoral process as the head of the headquarters".
