Mahiliou: Police Detain Agitators for Milinkevich
On 12 March in Mahiliou the police detained a number of oppositional activists. At the market near the railway station they detained Siarhei Hirkin and Siarhei Niahatsin who were handing out the agitation booklets. The police stated the agitators ‘created a nervous atmosphere’ at the market’, took them to the police station in Hryshyn St. and kept there for an hour.
In Burdenka St. Eduard Abakanovich and Iryna Kacharova were detained for sticking Milinkevich’s posters. Both detainees were driven to Mahiliou Leninski Borough Board of Internal Affairs. There the policemen composed on them reports under article 143 of the Code of Administrative Violations (sticking posters in wrong places). We should remind that Mahiliou authorities defined only two lonely places for sticking agitation posters. By the way, the city’s population is almost 400 000.
