Ashmiany: Local Authorities Hinder Meetings of Milinkevich’s Proxies with Electorate
According to RFE/RL
In the towns of Ashmiany and Kazloushchyna the meetings with the proxies of the candidate to the presidential position Aliaksandr Milinkevich Aliaksandr Dabravolski and Aliaksandr Liabedzka brought to hot discussions. The local authorities and members of the pro-governmental Belarusian National Youth Union (BRSM) tried to disrupt the meetings and insult the proxies.
In Ashmiany the hall of Ashmiany district Culture Palace was overcrowded. Representatives of the authorities and BRSM were among the meeting participants. They came there with their flags. They asked questions that had no relation to the electoral program of Aliaksandr Milinkevich, tried to insult the proxies and interrupted their answers. Members of Milinkevich’s headquarters gave them admonitions and called them to behave well. The meeting was interrupted several times. The present electors said they hadn’t ever seen such happenings.
The district Culture Palace of the town of Kazloushchyna was also full with people. The local authorities and BRSM members asked Aliaksandr Dabravolski why Milinkevich had different surname from his father, came to the meetings with his wife and said they didn’t need ‘any first ladies’.
Summing up the results of the meeting, its organizers stated it was fruitful. According to the chair of the initiative group of Aliaksandr Milinkevich in Dziatlava district Piatro Tsiareshka, this meeting revived the people, who haven’t heard any alternative thoughts and met with the people who could in detail criticize Lukashenka’s policy.
