Rechytsa Town Court Sentenced Andrei Klimau to 7 Days of Arrest
On 13 March Rechytsa Town Court sentenced the political activist Andrei Klimau to 7 days of jail. Mr Klimau is serving in Rechytsa the term of personal restraint to which he was sentenced for organization of the peaceful protest action in Kastrychnitskaia Square of Minsk on 25 March 2006. Two weeks ago he was transferred from the open prison in the town of Krupki to the village of Barshchouka in Homel region. The police who testified at the trial said Mr Klimau didn’t follow their orders. This was the reason that let the judge sentence him to 7 days of arrest.
‘They are afraid of me even when I am at corrective labor, that’s why they decided to put me behind bars. The behavior of the authorities shows their great incertitude. It means that we will win,’ said Andrei Klimau on the telephone to the press-center of Charter’97 after the verdict was announced.
