Horki District Court Warns Public Activist Piatro Malanachkin
According to the press-service of the Assembly of NGOs
On 10 March in Horki the police detained the public activist Piatro Malanachkin on accusation of organization of unauthorized picket in support of the local pensioners who were cheated by the authorities (the authorities made them pay the whole cost of the works on putting the gas-pipes to their houses). The pensioners used to believe the promises of Aliaksandr Lukashenka, who stated the state would pay for the major part of the expenses.
Haven’t received the answer of Horki District Executive Committee to his request for authorization of a protest picket on 16-18 March, on 10 March veterans went out to the streets with slogans about impeachment to the deceitful authorities. The same day the public activist Piatro Malanachkin was tricked into coming to Horki District Board of Internal Affairs and closed there. The following day the police protracted the trial so that the detainee would be tried next Monday. However, Malanachkin’s co-believers from protestant church and veterans gathered outside the DBIA, demanding to release him. Finally the judge Viktar Iaskovich warned Piatro Malanachkin and ruled to release him. According to Mr Malanachkin, at the interrogations at the DBIA the police demanded from him to admit he had violated the law, but he refused to do it, knowing his innocence.
