KGB CHAIRMAN THREATENS WITH CAPITAL PUNISHMENT TO THOSE WHO COME OUT TO CAPITAL'S CENTER ON 19 MARCH

On 16 March at their press-conference the chair of the Belarusian KGB Stsiapan Sukharenka, the Minister of Interior Uladzimir Navumau and the Procurator General Piatro Miklashevich threatened to journalists and citizens with severe punishments for coming to the center of Minsk on 19 March.

Here’s the statement by Sukharenka:
On 15 March the KGB brought a criminal case on article 290 of the Criminal Code ‘threat of terrorist act’. We know the suspects and those who are foreign citizens. They will be punished according to our laws. It is not an attempt to intimidate the people on the eve of the election, it is its dark side. The law machinery possess information, forces and means to prevent everything the opposition activists are preparing: explosions, arsons and other actions aimed at destabilization of the situation. The actions of the persons who will come to the square on 19 March will be qualified as terrorism, which provides punishment from 8 years of jail up to death penalty under different articles.

The Minister of Interior Uladizmir Navumau said that since 10 March the internal army has been transferred to the enforced regime of service and reminded people there are about 50 000 of soldiers in it.
