Uladzimir Labkovich: More Than 70 Opposition Activists Put behind Bars during Last Few Days
According to the information that was given to the BelaPAN information agency by Uladzimir Labkovich, the chair of the juridical service of the leader of the united democratic forces Aliaksandr Milinkevich, lately the Belarusian authorities have imprisoned more than 70 activists of the country’s opposition for up to 15 days.
According to Mr Labkovich, more than 30 prisoners are activists of the electoral headquarters of Aliaksandr Milinkevich and the rest are activists of different democratic organizations and volunteers.
As a rule, courts sentence them to administrative arrest under two articles of the Code of Administrative Violations - article 156 (petty hooliganism) and 166 (disobedience to the legal demands of the police).
Among the recently detained persons: Vasil Khramtsou (chair of Navapolatsk city electoral headquarters of Aliaksandr Milinkevich, sentenced to 5 days of jail), Mikola Lemianouski (citizen of Hrodna, sentenced to 7 days of jail); the citizens of Pinsk Dzmitry Bardelich, Kanstantsin Chuvak, Viktar Iarashuk, Siarhei Kastsiukovich, Pavel Lekhnovich, (each of them was sentenced to 5 days of jail); Zhodzina citizens Ales Chyreika, Siarhei Hudzilin and Iauhen Valkavets (7 days of jail for each of them) and the citizen of Dobrush Mark Sannikau (fined).
