Students Are Expelled from Educational Establishments for Political Views and Participation in Protest Actions

Dzianis Dziuba was expelled from the third year of historical faculty of Belarusian State Pedagogical University. The order was signed on 23 March. The reason was ‘systematical violation of discipline and internal regulations’. Dzianis Dziuba took part in the peaceful protest action in Kastrychnitskaia Square in Minsk. At 11.10 p.m. on 20 March 2006 he was detained. He had a tent with him. Minsk Tsentralny Borough Court accused him of ‘bold behavior, insult of the police and violation of public order’ (violation of article 156 of the Code of Administrative Violations, ‘petty hooliganism’) and sentenced him to 10 days of jail, despite the fact that D.Dziuba didn’t take the blame. The police witnesses were I.Balashou and I.Khakhlou.

Here’s a fragment from the office memorandum to the rector of Belarusian State Pedagogical University professor Kukharchyk: ‘I ask to remand from BSPU the 1-year student Ryhor Shkurynau for systematic violations of discipline and internal regulations which was manifested in posting stickers on lampposts and facades in Minsk and as a result a violation of the rules of accomplishment and maintenance of settlements’. The office memorandum contains Kukharchyk’s resolution: ‘Ok. Make an order out of it’. Following the memorandum there was issued the order to expel the student from the university.
