Minsk: Police Detain Youngsters Who Want to Congratulate Veterans on Victory Day
On 9 May in Minsk the riot police detained the youngsters who tried to proceed to Kastrychnitskaia Square and congratulate veterans of World War II with the Victory Day. However, the square and its surroundings were ringed with special police forces and KGB. The guards also stood along Nezalezhnastsi Avenue from Nezalezhnastsi Square to Peramohi Square.
After the end of the official part of the celebration in Kastrychnitskaia Square (in which Aliaksandr Lukashenka and his sons took part) some students managed to hand out to veterans more than 50 postcards with congratulations. Having noticed it, a KGB lieutenant called for the police. He explained to the present journalists that he noticed a political coloring in the congratulations, whereas the students said that the veterans treated them nice. As a result, the police detained the students, took them to a police station, put down their passport data and then let go.
