Opposition Activist Ivan Kruk in Danger of 6-month Arrest

At 2.30 p.m. on 15 May Lida District Court will hold the final sitting on the criminal case that was brought against the resident of the town of Astravets Ivan Kruk.

Human Rights Center Viasna reminds that Kruk is charged with violation of article #364 of the Criminal Code of Belarus: violence against policemen. According to Ivan Kruk and his witnesses, this case is notably politically motivated. The course of the session demonstrated that as well. It started in Astravets, and later was transferred to Lida. It is worth mentioning that judge rejects almost all motions of the lawyer and his client. Despite of the fact that there is no evidence that Ivan Kruk allegedly had torn a jacket to a policeman during a search in his apartment, the prosecutor demands 6 months of arrest for the defendant.
