Today in the court of Maskouski district of Minsk trials over youth activists Zmitser Dashkevich, Artur Finkevich, Alyaksei Straltsou and Krystsina Shatsikava took place. Activists were detained yesterday by the court of Maskouski district of Minsk unfoundedly. Young people have come to support oppositionists Yury Radzivil and Yury Bachyshche, whose cases were tried in the court of Maskouski district. Zmitser Dashkevich, Artur Finkevich, Alyaksei Straltsou and Krystsina Shatsikava have spent the night in the special detention center in Akrestsin Street. As the human rights center Viasna was informed, Krystsina, a mother of two underage children, was taken to hospital number 9 in the night. She was diagnosed “aggravation of chronic gastritis”.
After a medical check-up, as representatives of the hospital say, Krystsina Shatsikava was taken to the detention center in Akrestsin Street. And Pavel Drazdou’s finger was broken during the detention.
About 10 activists were detained yesterday by the court of Maskouski district. Policemen of the task police regiment (former SWAT) seized people near the court and packed to paddy wagons. Many were stopped on their way to the court, their documents were checked and they were demanded to return back. Badges “For Freedom” were seized, or they were forced to take them off.
Force was applied during the detentions of the young people. For instance, their arms were twisted, as Krystsina Shatsikava said. When two girls tried to picture the events, riot policemen seized them, grabbed the camera and erased the pictures.
As the activists cannot be charged with anything, they would stand trial for violation of the Article 156 of Administrative Code (petty hooliganism). As usual, riot policemen will be witnesses. In case the court would support the charges, Artur Finkevich can be taken into custody. Recently he had been sentenced to two years of corrective works for graffiti “We want a new one!”
