HOMEL DISTRIBUTORS OF INDEPENDENT NEWSPAPERS DEMAND AN ANSWER

On May 22 private distributors of newspapers from Homel Andrei Aksionau and Maria Bahdanovich sent an appeal to the head of the Chyhunachny Borough administration Siarhei Krautsou asking to tell them whether they had the right to distribute independent newspapers "Tovarishch" and "Narodnaia Volia" according to the Law on Press. The distributors have all the necessary documents but the police keep detaining them and forbid free distribution of these editions.
Andrei Aksionau also demands to tell him whether he has the right to distribute nonperiodical editions standing by side of the road where he is in nobody's way. (He means leaflets containing A. Lukashenka's quotes). Many distributor claim that the police confiscate all printed editions regardless of the fact whether their distribution is legal or not.
