“Nasha Niva” gives the text of the message:
To the president of Litva Valdas Adamkus
To the prime-minister of Litva Alhirdas Brazauskas
Dear Mr. President and Mr. Prime Minister!
The weekly edition “Niva” council and other organizations representing the Belarusian minority in Poland address you to support the Belarusian newspaper “Nasha Niva” and apply to UNESCO for including “Nasha Niva” to the list of non-material heredity of the humankind. “Nasha Niva” is the oldest Belarusian paper which has become a part of Belarusian culture. It influenced the formation of Belarusian literary language, classical Belarusian literature and the ideas of Belarus state.
The first Belarusian paper devotes much space to the Belarusian life also in Bialostok. It is connected with many personalities of our region who contributed a lot to the Belarusian culture and history. The Bialostok paper “Niva” which appeared in 1956 is closely connected with the paper “Nasha Niva”. Nowadays the Belarusians of Bialostok fully support the “Nasha Niva” members, their goals to remain independent.
