New Events around Hunger-strike in Salihorsk
Medics visited five youngsters who are keeping the hunger-strike of protest in Salihorsk. This visit took place after the chair of Salihorsk representation of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee Leanid Markhotka asked the local medical authorities to organize the medical watch of the state of the hunger-strikers health and provide medical duty in the flat where they lived.
The doctors examined the health of the action participants and said they would visit them twice a day. The hunger-strikers demand from the Belarusian authorities to stop the persecution of their friends, members of the unregistered organization Young Front and rehabilitate at the place of study Maxim Siamenchyk, who was expelled from technical college #72 for participation in the defense of the tent camp in the center of Minsk (as a result of which he had also spent 10 days in jail). The parents of the youngsters urge them to stop the action not to put their health in danger.
The activist of the Young Front Iauhen Miadzvedzeu had to stop the hunger-strike because the police threatened to create problems to his parents at work. It wasnt a simple threat. In February Mr Miadzvedzeu was detained for handing out flyers and after this his father was deprived of bonus to wage.
At the same time, the activist of the United Civil Party Uladzimir Lemesh joined the hunger-strike. So, all in all seven persons are hungering in Salihorsk now. All in all 24 persons participate in the action. One of them keeps the hunger-strike in Kyiv (Ukraine).
