Ulevichs case to be controlled by Ministry of Internal Affairs
According to the information provided by Aleh Slepchanka, head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the General Board of Internal Affairs, the battery case which had previously been suspended by the General Board of Internal Affairs was passed to a superior level the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He also added that in spite of the fact that the investigative action was suspended, the case would not be closed.
Aleh Ulevich was beaten on March 2 when accompanied by other journalists he came to the building of Minsk Kastrychnitski Borough Board of Internal Affairs to learn about the fate of Akiaksandr Kazulin, a candidate for the president whop had been detained the day before. The case was suspended on May 31 on the score of not having identified the person to be persecuted as the accused. The letter from the General Board of Internal Affairs received by Ulevich says that the decision could be appealed with the help of Minsk Prosecutors Office.
