Action on Solidarity Day broken up violently in Minsk
More than 40 people have been detained today near the Russian Embassy in Minsk. The Belarusians intended to raise the Belarusian issue on the G8 group summit held in St.Petersburg and to urge Russia to cease its support for the Belarusian dictatorship. The action participants were heading to the Embassy with portraits of the politicians and the journalist missing in Belarus. They also were keeping candles of solidarity with the political prisoners and repressed Belarusian people. OMON soldiers were trashing the demonstrators during detentions. According to the witnesses, in buses the people were beaten violently. UCP leader Anatol Liabedzka and opposition activist Zmitser Barodka were also detained. In general, more than 100 people have come to the Russian Embassy.
