Trade union action of protest held on July 12
The first action of protest of the Belarusian Radio and Electronics Workers Union (REWU) against violations of trade union rights takes place at the Bangalore Square on 12 July, informs the newspaper Salidarnast. Authorities have allowed to collect to initiators of the action up to 100 persons. Now negotiations are underway with the City of Minsk militia to decide in what place protesters could gather and stay from 16.00 till 18.00. It has been envisaged that this action would be a national one and simultaneously, except for the capital, would take place in Gomel, Grodno and Mogilyov. It is exactly in these cities that local authorities refuse to register the REWU structures - city or primary organizations. Decisions of officials in relation to trade union pickets became known only two days before the action. In Mogilyov the protest action date is transferred for 25 July, because to organize it plenty of things were necessary: in addition to contracts to use services of militia and doctors, the documents confirming payment of rent of the land where the action can take place. The Grodno authorities have refused an application to carry out the picket on Lenin Square, having offered the trade union activists to choose other place for this event. And in Gomel officials acted in a very simple way, without explanation of the specific reasons, they have forbidden carrying out of the action. In their answer they have only written that in the application of initiators of picket is considered infringing the law On Mass Actions &. It is remarkable that the REWU representatives both in Gomel and Grodno wrote their applications using one model. Nevertheless, authorities from different cities have treated them differently.
