The EESC representatives were going to learn on the actual state of things with the trade union movement and NGOs in Belarus. According to Radio Liberty, they had been granted visas, but later they were cancelled because the visit was not prepared in close cooperation with the official authorities.
The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it did not refuse to grant visas to the EESC representatives, but only suggested postponing the time of the visit.
The EESC is an independent organization with over 300 representatives from the EU countries.
