High-Schoolers Go on Strike

In the town of Vaukavysk students of 8-10 grades of a school with Polish as a language of training stopped attending classes last week. They demand from the authorities to return their old teachers from Poland who used to teach them before. In the beginning of the academic year the school principle received a letter from the local department of internal affairs stating that the school needs a special license in order to employ foreign citizens.
Thus, from September 1 Polish teachers were substituted by graduates of Hrodna and Bialystok universities. Students are dissatisfied with the level of education in Polish. They have started a protest action demanding the return of Polish teachers, reports RFE/RL.
