UDF Leader Alexander Milinkevich Accused of Deliberate Illegal Border Crossing with Forged Documents

Alexander Milinkevich was detained on November 29 at Minsk airport, on his way back from the NATO summit in Riga. The border guards started to “clarify” how he got to Riga, as he does not have a stamp about leaving Belarus in his passport. It turned out, that on the way to Riga the leader of the United Democratic Forces made a mistake and gave the passport of his son to Belarusian border guards. His son is also Alexander Milinkevich, but is born in 1974. By accident Milinkevich had both passports – his and his son’s in his pocket. The border guards did not pay attention to the fact that the passport holder is 25 years older than the age stated in the passport. The mistake was noticed by Latvian border guards who put their stamp in the passport of the UDF leader.

After 3 hours of detention Alexander Milinkevich was released. The border guards drew up a report about deliberate crossing of the border on invalid documents. Milinkevich is facing a big fine or correctional work for up to 2 months. The documents will be sent to court on November 30.
