The leader of the democratic forces of Belarus Aliaksandr Milinkevich was detained in Belaaziorsk, Brest region. The car by which the opposition leader, his press-secretary Pavel Mazheika and the head of the Minsk regional Council of the Belarusian People’s Front Party Aliaksei Kavalets drove was detained by policemen. As said by policemen, an anonymous report had been allegedly received by them, that drugs and alcohol were transported in the car.
The politicians were taken to the regional police department of Belaaziorsk, and the car was searched there. Nothing has been found in the car. Aliaksandr Milinkevich and Aliaksei Kavalets had to write explanations of their visit to Belaaziorsk. They collected signatures in support of candidates for deputies there.
’It is another fact of pressure on Milinkevich and his team. Milinkevich is repeatedly stopped in his trips around the country. Last time, in Vitsebsk, policemen said he resembled a driver who had allegedly knocked down a pedestrian. There are no limits to policemen’s fantasy,’ said Pavel Mazheika says.
