Barysau: Police Officer Beats Alesia Iasiuk

46-year-old opposition activist Alesia Iasiuk was detained yesterday in Barysau during distribution of stickers ‘Jeans for Freedom!’ The woman was taken to the police department of Leninski district of Barysau. He was beaten up by a police major I.Falei. Medico-legal proceedings have recorded beating signs at her body. She plans to appeal against illegal actions of the policeman.
In the police department a report was drawn up against Alesia Iasiuk for violation of the presidential decree #31 On Housing Facilities Improvement. 50 stickers were seized from her.
’I was detained in Rokossovsky Street in Minsk by a man in mufti. As it turned out, he was a worker of security service department. I was taken to the police department of Leninski district of Minsk in a police car. A report on seizure of 50 stickers was drawn up. When they learnt that I had been detained more than 10 times for dissemination of informational materials since 2000, they said that they would open a case and fine me at least 5 million. Then I was fingerprinted. A major I.Falei was drawing up a report. When I leaned to look what he was writing in the report, he hit me with a fist on my head. When I sat on a chair, he knocked it from under me, seized my clothes and started dragging me around on the floor,’ Alesia Iasiuk said.
